Rep. Huffman Record on Palestine

This page will provide a timeline of Congressman Huffman’s legislative record beginning with the 119th Congress that began January 3, 2025. We will also do our best to add any public comments by Huffman on this issue (that also includes efforts to suppress dissent in the United States), including his posts in social media (which is very sparse, he rarely posts on this issue), his congressional website, news interviews. Some of these actions are also covered in our blog, some are not. The blog also covers some actions that took place prior to 2025. Our intention here is to provide a resource for activists for a better understanding of Huffman’s record.

May 7th, 2025- Rep. Carbajal/Bera Letter on Humanitarian Aid

After two long months of a blockade of any humanitarian aid entering into Gaza, Rep. Huffman signs onto this letter critical of this policy to the Israeli ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter. Led by California Democratic Reps. Salud Carbajal and Ami Bera, the letter also was signed by Democratic Reps. Mark Pocan (Wis.), Pramila Jayapal (Wash.), James Clyburn (S.C.), Maxwell Frost (Fla.) and a total of 94 House Democrats. We appreciate the gesture, but because most (not all) of the signers (including Huffman) are funding sponsors of the policy they supposedly oppose, it will be ignored by the Israeli regime. It is also amazing that they waited until this policy had gone on for two months before even producing this toothless letter.

“Israel has relentlessly and mercilessly turned Gaza into an inferno of death and destruction.” says Erika Guevara Rosas, Senior Director for Research, Advocacy, Policy, and Campaigns at Amnesty International. According to Amnesty, Israel’s policy on humanitarian aid is further evidence of its genocidal intent in Gaza.

April 16th, 2025- Beca Balint letter on Mohsen Mahdawi’s arrest.

Huffman signs onto this letter. From the press release-

Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL) wrote to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of State secretaries to demand answers on the illegal abduction and arrest of Mohsen Mahdawi. On Monday, April 14th, masked, hooded men in plain clothes removed Mr. Mahdawi, who was then handcuffed and taken into an unmarked van from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office in Colchester, Vermont. Rep. Balint is joined by 67 colleagues in demanding answers on Mr. Mahdawi’s arrest and for his immediate release.

On April 30th, Moshen Mahdawi was released from custody, following an order by Judge Geoffrey Crawford.

March 30, 2025- At Eureka Town Hall Huffman defends funding Genocide, defames opponents.

It seems that funding a genocide is a contentious issue for many people. See my blog post on this town hall confrontation.

March 14, 2025- Huffman signs letter demanding answers on detention and attempted deportation of Mahmoud Khalil

Here is an excerpt from the press release for the letter (can be seen here), signed by a total of 103 members of Congress, including Rep. Huffman.

U.S. Representatives Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Ranking Member of the Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement Subcommittee, Jamie Raskin (MD-08), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, and Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05), Ranking Member of the Constitution and Limited Government Subcommittee are leading 103 Members of Congress in demanding answers from Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Department of State Secretary Marco Rubio regarding the detention of Mahmoud Khalil and the stripping of his Green Card.

February 13, 2025- Huffman signs letter criticizing Trump, but not Israel, on Gaza ethnic cleansing.

See my blog post on this letter, that while it rightfully criticizes President Trump’s deranged vision for Gaza, it leaves out the fact that Israel has ethnic cleansing plans of its own, funded by Congress.

January 16th, 2025- Huffman posts this statement on Ceasefire deal.

In a very rare post on this issue on his official website, Huffman put up a statement that welcomed the ceasefire. Ironically, it included this historically false statement, given what the whole world now knows to be false- “I am grateful to the Biden-Harris administration for its tireless work to deliver peace.” The Biden administration did NOT push for a ceasefire.

The statement goes on to list some actions Huffman has taken in 2024 on the issue. Noticeably absent is Huffman’s vote in April 2024 to send $17 Billion to the Israel genocidal war machine. Huffman knows this was a very unpopular vote.

January 9, 2025- Huffman does not vote to sanction International Criminal Court

We are grateful for the small things. Thanks for your No vote, Rep. Huffman. In one of the very first votes of the Congressional session, 45 House Democrats joined their fascist Republican colleagues in helping to protect a genocidal maniac.

From Common Dreams:

Forty-five congressional Democrats on Thursday voted with the U.S. House of Representatives’ Republican majority in favor of legislation to sanction International Criminal Court officials following the tribunal’s issuance of arrest warrants for Israel’s prime minister and his former defense chief for alleged crimes against humanity in Gaza.

House lawmakers voted 243-140 in favor of H.R. 23, the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act. Introduced by Reps. Chip Roy (R-Texas) and Brian Mast (R-Fla.), the bill would “impose sanctions with respect to the International Criminal Court (ICC) engaged in any effort to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute any protected person of the United States and its allies.”
