ICJ rules that it is plausible that Israel is in violation of anti-Genocide treaty.

In a clear censure of Israel and the US, the International Court of Justice just ordered Israel to cease its violations of the Genocide Convention. It’s a victory for the Palestinian rights movement and the civilians of Gaza. As Israeli bombs continued to fall on Gaza, Judge Joan Donoghue, president of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), read out the court’s order earlier today that Israel must comply with the United Nations’ Genocide Convention.

So begins a January 2024 article from Jacobin of the ruling of ICJ on South Africa’s petition to declare Israel’s actions in Gaza as genocide. Meanwhile, in Marin, Congressman Huffman continues to deny that Israel’s actions amount to the crime of genocide, so that he can continue to fund its military actions, in violation of both U.S. and international law.
