The banality of evil, another routine vote for military aid to Israel. With that vote, Huffman affirms support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Despite majority of his constituents demanding a ceasefire. Despite fact-filled reports from human rights organizations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, B’Tselem (an Israeli-based human rights organization), and despite Huffman’s own admissions of Israel’s crimes, Huffman voted to continue with politics as usual, genocide as usual, brutal oppression as usual. It would seem like Huffman is in the grip of some fanatical, very violent religious cult from which he can’t free himself. The routine of funding the slaughter of Palestinian children is beyond Congressman Huffman’s ability to end.
Congressman Huffman likes to portray himself as “nuanced” on the issue of Israel’s war on Gaza, and the broader issue of “Israel/Palestine”. He eagerly tells us that he is very critical of Prime Minister Netanyahu, even going so far as to call Netanyahu’s government “fascist”. He denies that what Israel is doing in Gaza raises to the level of genocide but concedes that Israel is likely committing war crimes. There is simply nothing nuanced about the military aid that is enabling these crimes. I have yet to hear of any magical “nuanced” bomb used by Israel. No, the bombs provided by the United States do exactly what the Israeli military wants it to do. Destroy a hospital, Destroy a school. Destroy a home. The letters of faux concern Huffman writes are ignored by Israel, even if they were sincerely meant to be read by anyone other than his angry constituents. This aid is used with impunity by the Israeli military to continue its complete destruction of Gaza, and further ethnic cleansing of the West Bank.
No matter. When all is said and done, Congressman Huffman votes to give this regime he says he opposes all the funds it needs to continue its carnage without interruption. Lip-service to concern, then takes real action and sends bombs to continue a very well-documented genocide. Congressman Huffman joined with the most fervent supporters of Netanyahu in Congress with a majority shamefully using our tax money to destroy Gaza, to continue oppression of Palestinians without end, thus making war and suffering for all the expected outcomes. It should be noted that the vote for this measure was 366 in favor with 58 opposed to this funding. Congressman Huffman did not join dozens of progressives and even moderates in opposing this extremist measure.
