Huffman on War On Iran- opposes Trump’s actions, silent on Israel’s

Huffman knows it is best to be a loud critic of Trump. On Israel’s policies, despite it being done on US taxpayers’ dime, he chooses, more often than not, to be very, very, quiet. It seems to be the pattern for Huffman and other “liberal” supporters of the Israeli regime (see this, for example) to minimize any direct criticism of Israel.

On June 13th, 2025, Israel, the only country in the Middle East to possess nuclear weapons, launched a large-scale military attack against Iran. Clearly, an act of military aggression. Clearly, a war crime, clearly an attack that would not have been possible without massive US funding of the Israeli military. No word from Huffman on Israel’s commencement of yet another war in the Middle East.

It took EIGHT DAYS before Congressman Huffman had anything to say on social media on the war on Iran, despite knowing full-well that the United States directly helped Israel with the aggression against Iran, Trump saying as much himself. He limited his words only to Trump’s anticipated bombing of Iran, without congressional approval (as if congressional approval of a war crime would make it okay). Contrast this silence on Israel’s aggression against Iran with other members of Congress, progressives and centrists alike who were vocal in their condemnation of Israel’s aggression.

Huffman’s Facebook post of June 21, 2025:

Contrast Huffman’s silence on Israel’s strike with other members of Congress.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) called Israel’s strike “reckless” and “escalatory,” and warned that Prime Minister Netanyahu is trying to drag the U.S. into a broader war. Rep. Chuy García (D-IL) called Israel’s actions “diplomatic sabotage” and said, “the U.S. must stop supplying offensive weapons to Israel, which also continue to be used against Gaza, & urgently recommit to negotiations.”

Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA) was even more blunt. “The war criminal Netanyahu wants to ignite an endless regional war & drag the U.S. into it. Any politician who tries to help him betrays us all.”

More striking, however, were the critiques from moderate Democrats and some Republicans. Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI), Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, warned that strikes “threaten not only the lives of innocent civilians but the stability of the entire Middle East and the safety of American citizens and forces.” From Counterpunch

Congressman Huffman made no such direct condemnations of Israel’s action, only focusing on President Trump’s response. That Huffman could not even match the condemnation from Senator Reed , who is usually a fervent supporter of Israel is very telling, and a certainly challenges the view that Huffman is somehow “progressive” on this issue.

Huffman, did, however, provide some positive actions legislatively, as minimal as they may be. First, he was not one of 128 Democrats to table a resolution of impeachment for President Trump’s unconstitutional declaration of war against Iran. See H.Res.537

Further, Huffman cosponsored H.Con.Res.38, which seeks to limit the President’s power to make war on Iran. This is important legislation, however limited it may be. It is supported by diverse organizations from NIAC (National Iranian American Council) to J Street (the “liberal” pro-Israel lobby favored by Huffman.

What is needed from Huffman is a stronger response, not only restricted to condemning Trump’s actions, which is vital, but a willingness to break completely with the Israeli regime that has proven to act consistently outside international law.
