Congressman Huffman in a May 15 interview with KMUD’s Lauren Schmitt condemned Israel’s current actions in Gaza. The sad reality is that Huffman has still taken no discernable action to stop the atrocities he says he opposes. Instead, he funds the atrocities.
Just days ago, the Israeli military celebrated the 800th planeload of bombs, guns and ammo from the United States, funded by Congressman Huffman and his cohorts, that is making the continuation of the genocide in Gaza possible after 600 days. Absent from Huffman’s condemnation of Israel’s “unconscionable” actions in Gaza is any hint that he would do anything to prevent another 800 planeloads of U.S. arms to continue with the ethnic cleansing of Gaza. The machinery of genocide will go uninterrupted.
A plea to match words with deeds.
We would welcome Rep. Huffman’s condemnation, however late it may be, of Israel’s actions in Gaza when he follows through with a commitment to stop arming Israel. That is what is missing from Huffman’s words below. You can sign a petition for that right here to demand that crucial action. If you have not already done so, please sign, and please urge others to do so.
Folks from the Humboldt Committee for Peace and Justice have had an open letter published also demanding an arms embargo. Our chorus of demands must be heard. Words are not enough.
Transcript from portion of KMUD interview with Rep. Huffman-
Rep. Huffman: We are way past the point this Israel war in Gaza is about Israeli security. I will tell you, Lauren, not everybody agrees with me on this. But initially, I did support the war. I thought it was a just war because of what happened on October 7th.
I didn’t like the way it started to be fought, And we just have seen red line after red line crossed in terms of what’s going on with humanitarian aid, some of the targeting and the indiscriminate nature of the military campaign and now, it’s, I believe that we are at the point where it’s just totally unconscionable. So I do not support any of the military activity in Gaza right now by Israel. It needs to end. It should have ended a long time ago. I want the hostages freed. I want the killing to stop and the bombing to stop, and I want to start rebuilding Gaza and also end the madness that is going on In the West Bank.
Lauren Schmitt: What should we do?
Rep. Huffman: The United States should stop green lighting all of this, And frankly, you know, we have the ability to bring this current Israeli government to a better place, to hold them to a high standard and get them to stop this.
